Grant Awarded to Archives for Braun Seismological Station Records
The Canisius College Archives has received a $5,900 grant from the American Institiute of Physics (AIP) that will enable the Archives to fully inventory, appraise, arrange, describe and preserve the historic records of the Canisius College Braun Seismographic Station. The Braun Seismograph Station is one of the earliest seismograph stations in the United States, and one of only four remaining of the original 16 Jesuit stations.
In the grant application,
Kathleen DeLaney, archivist, and
Mark Castner, director of the Braun Seismograph Station, noted the importance of the historic records of the Jesuit Seismological Association. It was the primary reporting group in the United States for worldwide earthquakes in the 1930s, 1940s and early 1950s. The grant also will provide funds to process the papers of the late
Rev. James J. Ruddick, S.J., longtime director of the Braun Seismograph Station, and a faculty member of the Department of Physics.
AIP’s mission is to help preserve and make known the history of modern physics and allied fields. The grant program is intended to help support significant work to make original sources accessible to researchers. The Grants to Archives are supported by the Friends of the Center for History of Physics, American Institute of Physics.
The World is Getting Smaller
The Siemens A70 World Phone is the size of a regular cell phone (approximately four inches long) and comes with all the accessories, including charger cord and outlet adaptor. And ITS has a phone to meet your needs in over 170 countries throughout the world. A Siemens A70 World Phone is available for overseas travel. It is strictly a voice communication device and unlike the Treo we have available, will not access voicemail. There is no rental fee; however, departments will have to do a budget transfer to defray the cost of the any minutes used. If you are planning a trip overseas and need to keep in touch, please call
Joe Rizzo at Ext. 2455 at least 48 hours in advance to arrange pick up.
Software UpdatesITS is currently making winter maintenance plans for the labs and ITCs. If the courses you teach in the spring semester require specialized software, your request must be made by November 30th to assure installation in the labs.
