Canisius Employees Honored at Service Recognition Ceremony
Executive Vice President and Vice President for College Relations John J. Hurley '78 (right) seen here with Rev. Vincent M. Cooke. S.J., Canisius College president, was recognized for 10 years of service to alma mater. Nearly 80 Canisius College employees were honored for their five, 10 and 15-year service anniversaries in the Montante Cultural Center on Friday during the Service Recognition Ceremony. Combined, these faculty members, staff and administrators have nearly 600 years of service to the college.

Patricia A. Hutton, PhD, professor of economics and finance, and more than 200 family members, friends and members of the Canisius community were on hand for the event.
Members of the Canisius Brass performed prior to the ceremony and offered the processional. Canisius Brass members include,
Joel A. Cohen, PhD, associate vice president for library & information services, trombone;
Lawrence J. Deni, director of network services, ITS, trumpet; Michael Coryat '11, trumpet; and Benjamin Demerath '11, trombone.
Susan A. Fischer, associate campus minister/coordinator of student retreats, began the event with an invocation and Dr. Hutton welcomed honorees and guests.
(left) Martha Dunkelman, PhD, chair and professor of fine arts, was recognized for ten years of service. Five-year anniversaries were celebrated by (from left to right) Sandra M. Estanek, PhD, associate professor of college student personnel administration; Patricia C. Strobele, administrative associate for fine arts; and Admissions Processing Associates Samantha M. Brennan and Marilyn A. Pietrzak.
(left to right) Terrence E. Zeh, head women’s basketball coach and Timothy M. Sawicki, associate professor of physical education, were both honored for 10 years of service; and Patricia Alessi, administrative associate for the Koessler Athletic Center, was recognized for 15 years of service.
After Patrick E. Richey presented service awards to five-year honorees, Cantio Sacra performed a musical interlude, including “Peace” by Martin Wimmer, under the direction of Kathleen Keenan-Takagi.
Susan A. Fischer gave the benediction. After the ceremony, honorees and their guests celebrated at a reception. This is the seventh year that the college has held a Service Recognition Ceremony to commemorate significant milestones in employee service. In the spring, employees who have reached 20 or more years of service, as well as retirees, are recognized at the annual Celebration of Service.
