How Would You Spend $81 Million?
Television watchers have no doubt seen the new Canisius College television spots!
Running on local network affiliates and Adelphia Cable, the thirty and sixty-second spots aim to secure our position on the local marketplace and attract more commuter students to the college.
The ad, produced by The Performance Group with videography by our very own Media Center (great job, folks!), centers on the accomplishments of the college over the past few years by posing the question, “How would you spend 81 million dollars?” It then illustrates how our successful renovation and building projects, new technology and new academic programs, spell success for our graduates.
The $81 million figure represents Canisius’ recent investment in the college and our community. In addition to our brick and mortar projects (that’s shop talk for building construction), the college has also made a major investment in state-of-the-art technology systems including the Banner Software project.
The college funded these projects through our successful Imagine Canisius Capital Campaign (which raised $39 million), $30 million in bonds issued through the New York State Dormitory Authority and funds from our unrestricted endowment.
It is also significant to note that our $81 million investment is the largest private investment in the City of Buffalo!
The Canisius College television campaign airs until just before Christmas.

With rakes and garbage bags in hand, more than 25 students hit the streets to clean the community during fifth bi-annual Hamlin Park Clean-up on Saturday, November 17.
"The day was perfect," said Rev. J. Peter Conroy, S.J., director of student development. "The beautiful weather provided an excellent opportunity for the students to get out into the community and meet their neighbors. I was happy to see the many conversations taking place between the students and residents of the Hamlin Park Community."

"It is nice to see that the students have a vested interest in the Hamlin Park Community," said Cat Tyler, owner of E M Tea Coffee Cup, located on the corner of Oakgrove and Hughes. "They help out a lot. Some of the elderly residents probably would not have had their yards cleaned before the winter if it weren't for the students!"
Holiday Festivities

Deck the halls with the campus community at the college's annual end of the semester holiday celebration on Friday, December 21. In lieu of the traditional luncheon, faculty, administration and staff are invited to celebrate with an early breakfast or a coffee break from 7:00 - 10:00 a.m. in the Palisano Pavilion. The time and location of the party have changed due to the college's academic calendar which has students on-campus taking exams through December 21.
Be sure to check the next edition of NetGazette on December 12 for more details as well as a list of prizes that will be given away during the holiday breakfast.
