Jubilee Year Celebration Begins
Paula M. McNutt, PhD, dean of arts and sciences and Rev. John P. Bucki, S.J., director of campus ministry, present the college’s new icon of St. Ignatius Loyola at the Jubilee Year reception in the Grupp Fireside Lounge.
On December 3, Jesuits throughout the world marked the start of the Jubilee Year to renew the spirit of three of the founders of the Society of Jesus: Saint Francis Xavier, Blessed Pierre Favre and Saint Ignatius Loyola. Founded in 1870 by German Jesuits, Canisius College joins in this celebration.
Members of the college community kicked off the Jubilee Year on December 2 with a reception in the Grupp Fireside Lounge. Paula M. McNutt, PhD, dean of Arts and Sciences and Rev. John P. Bucki, S.J., director of campus ministry, presented the college’s new icon of St. Ignatius Loyola, which will be displayed at various locations on campus during the Jubilee Year. During December and January, it will be displayed in the Andrew L. Bouwhius Library, along with a collection of books that represent the Jesuit tradition.
From January 12 – 15, faculty and staff are welcome to personally celebrate the Jubilee Year at an Ignatian Retreat offered by the Office of Campus Ministry at Mt. Carmel, Niagara Falls, Ontario. The cost is $65.00. Click here to register On-line, or stop in the Campus Ministry Office (Old Main 207) for a brochure. For more information, call Ext. 2420.
Many Jubilee Year commemorations at Canisius will be integrated into regular college events, such as lectures, ArtsCanisius musical performances and International Fest. The Jubilee Year will be celebrated through December 3, 2006. For more information, click here for the Campus Ministry Web site.
Happy Holidays
The Christmas tree decorated and lit during "Christmas in the Quad" presented by the Undergraduate Student Association (USA) on December 6 is more than 20 feet tall and stands in front of the Palisano Pavilion. The ornaments on the tree represent various student organizations on campus. The event was sponsored by the Senate Programming Board (SPB) with the Undergraduate Student Association (USA) as co-sponsor.

Connie Pileri, director of campus programming, bends Santa's ear to get her gift requests in early during Christmas in the Quad.

Monetary donations are also still being accepted for the Campus Ministry Holiday Food Drive. Teams of Canisius volunteers solicited donations of non-perishable food outside several area supermarkets on Canisius Community Day on November 19.

The ROTC classroom where Lt. Col. Terrence Crowe taught cadets in the Canisius College Golden Griffin Battalion has been dedicated in his memory.
