Delaney Authors Sociology Texts for Prentice Hall
Dr. Tim Delaney, assistant professor of sociology and anthropology, signed a two-book deal with Prentice Hall, the world's leading publisher of academic and reference textbooks. The texts will examine classical and contemporary social theory.

"The primary difference between my books and the other social theory books is my focus on showing the relevance of this material to today's world," said Delaney.

Classical Social Theory: Investigation and Application is expected to be released later this year.  The finished product will contain 14 chapters, each featuring a biography on a classical social thinker as well as a review of influences on the thinker's work, concepts and contributions.

The second publication will focus on contemporary social theory.  In the last chapter Delaney focuses on future society, a concept that is extremely unique to social theory books.  "This chapter is already finished and in it I predict a number of specific elements for future society.  Sorry, you will have to wait until the book is done for any hints," said Delaney.

Contemporary Social Theory: Investigation and Application is scheduled for release in winter 2003.

Delaney published his first book, Community Sport and Leisure , in 1999 with Legend Books. A second edition was released in 2001.

Management/Marketing Names Ampuja Executive-in-Residence
Jack T. Ampuja, an expert in global logistics and supply chain management, has joined the faculty as executive-in-residence in the Management/Marketing Department for the 2002 academic year.

Ampuja was previously senior vice president for logistics and operations for Fisher Scientific International in Pittsburgh, PA from 1999-2001 and was vice president of purchasing and logistics for Rich Products Corporation from 1990-1999.

He will enrich the college's Management/Marketing Department offerings by developing a program in global logistics and supply chain management.  Ampuja is currently team-teaching a new course entitled, "Global Logistics and Transportation" with Dr. Guy Gessner, associate professor of management/marketing at the college.  The course provides students with an introduction to the operation and management of the primary modes of international transportation.

Ampuja is also teaching global logistics in the college's MBA Program.

He holds a bachelor's degree and master's degree from the University of Massachusetts, a master's degree from Northeastern University and an MBA in management from the University of Connecticut.

Ampuja's visit is funded by a U.S. Department of Education Title VI-B Business and International Education Grant.

DiGamma Inducts Two From Campus Community
Sister Patricia Brady S.S.M.N.
, coordinator of volunteer services for campus ministry, and Dr. Robert Butler, professor of English and director of the All-College Honors Program, were recently inducted into the college's DiGamma Honor Society during a ceremony held at The Buffalo Club.

For more than 75 years the college has recognized its finest students, alumni, faculty and administrators with membership in the DiGamma Honor Society. This prestigious society is comprised of "men and women for others" who distinguish themselves by working for the advancement of the college, and who provide exemplary service on behalf of students and alumni.

Congratulations to Sister Pat & Bob!

Sister Patricia Brady was cited for "promoting the Ignatian ideal of living 'for others,' by providing students with many opportunities to serve the broader community and setting an example by working alongside them.  Canisius College could ask for no finer representative of Ignatian values, no one more dedicated to the spirituality of our students and the welfare of humankind."

Dr. Robert Butler was cited for "opening the eyes of hundreds of students through the journey motif of Huckleberry Finn. Along with devoting considerable time to teaching and student advisement he also takes part in student-recruitment events and other college-sponsored activities.  He is often among the fans cheering on the Golden Griffins at the Koessler Athletic Center.  His door is always to students and many former students return after graduation to tell him about their accomplishments and to thank him."
