Canisius Employees Honored at Celebration of Service
Father Cooke thanks Paul A. Young, PhD, associate professor of education, for 40 years of service.
The service milestones of more than 50 Canisius College employees were recognized today in the Montante Cultural Center during the college’s Celebration of Service. Rev. Vincent M. Cooke, S.J., college president, Herbert J. Nelson, PhD, vice president for academic affairs, and more than 200 family members, friends, and Canisius community members were on hand. The event honored faculty, staff and administrator retirements and those who have reached their 20, 35, 40, 45 and 50-year service anniversaries.
A special posthumous 50-year service recognition was awarded to Rev. James J. Ruddick, S.J., professor emeritus of physics and director of the Braun Seismograph Station, who passed away on March 18 at the age of 83.
J. Joseph Van Volkenburg, assistant to the director of campus ministry, began the event with an invocation. Cantio Sacra, under the direction of Kathleen Keenan-Takagi, adjunct professor of music and accompanied by Karen Schmid, piano; performed several musical selections.
This is the sixth year that the college has held the Celebration of Service. Employees who have reached five, 10 and 15 years of service are honored at the Employee Recognition Ceremony held each fall.
