Latin American Art on Display at the Library
Latin American arts and crafts on display in the Bouwhuis Library.
The Graduate and Undergraduate Education Departments are sponsoring an exhibit of Latin American Art in the library display cases through Friday, April 30. Dr. Fernanda Astiz, assistant professor in the Graduate Education & Leadership Department, curated the exhibit, which features handcrafted items such as carvings, tapestries, paintings and jewelry. Dr. Nicki Calabrese, assistant professor of education, Dr. Linda Grabner-Coronel, assistant professor of modern languages and students from Project Mexico and the Teachers Club collaborated on the project.
Town Hall Meeting on American Indian Mental Health
The Canisius Collage Department of Counseling and Human Services will host a town meeting from 2:00 p.m. - 4:00 p.m. Friday, April 23 in the Montante Cultural Center. Dr. John Peregoy, of the counseling department of Moorehead State University in Kentucky, will speak about “What you always wanted to know about issues in American Indian Mental Health, but were afraid to ask.” For more information, contact Dr. E. Harpsichord Recital Sunday, April 25
ArtsCanisius will present a Meet-the-Faculty recital featuring Jane Cary, associate professor of fine arts and director of music at Canisius, on the harpsichord. She will perform on Sunday, April 25 at 2:00 p.m. in Christ the King Chapel. The performance, which is free and open to the public, will feature works by J.S. Bach, J.C. Discussion on Colonial South Carolina
The next Arts and Sciences Colloquium will feature a presentation by Dr. Jonathan Mercantini, assistant professor of history, on the colonial origins of secession. He will examine early South Carolina to better understand the state's peculiar political culture. Join other members of the Canisius faculty in an informal setting to exchange insights and ideas on Monday April 26, from 3:30 p.m. -5:00 p.m. in Regis North.
National Accounting Figure to Speak at Accounting Society Award Banquet
He was brought in to make sure corporate scandals such as those at Enron, Adelphia, Tyco and WorldCom don’t happen again - William J. McDonough HON ’01, chairman of the Public Company Accounting Oversight Board is the keynote speaker at the 48th annual Accounting Society Awards banquet April 28.
Two Canisius College graduates will be honored at the banquet, which will take place at Salvatore’s Italian Gardens April 26 at 5:30 p.m. Thomas R. Emmerling ’75, CPA, CFP, managing partner of Dopkins & Company LLP will be named the Canisius College Accountant of the Year.
James J. Rzad ’70, MBA ’75, CPA, president and chief executive officer of Bishop Timon-St. Jude High School will receive the Dr. Joseph R. Current Issues for Corporate Leadership Conference
The Office of Graduate Business Programs and the Buffalo Niagara Partnership will present a conference, Current Issues for Corporate Leadership, on Wednesday, April 28 from 8:00 a.m. to 10:45 a.m. at the Canisius Center @ Amherst. Final “Conversations in Christ & Culture” Lecture
Dr. Phillip Jenkins, a distinguished professor of history and religious studies at Pennsylvania State University will give a lecture entitled, “The New Anti-Catholicism,” for this year’s final “Conversations in Christ & Culture” lecture presented by the Center for the Global Study of Religion. Spring Honors Convocation April 30
The Canisius community will honor outstanding members of the Class of 2004 during the Spring Honors Convocation on Friday, April 30 at 3:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. All are welcome to attend. The event is being held on a Friday for the first time, in the hopes that more parents can attend and that there will be more parking available.
African American Experience Program to Feature the Brown Sisters
On Friday, April 30 at 7:30 p.m., the Canisius College Program in the African American Experience will feature a lecture from Linda and Cheryl Brown at the Montante Cultural Center. As children, the Brown sisters were at the center of the landmark school desegregation case of Brown v. Board of Education decided by the U.S. Supreme Court in 1954. Love Canal Anniversary Panel Discussion
The Office of Campus Ministry and the WNY Earth Day Steering Committee present a panel discussion, Justice and the Environment: The Legacy and the Challenge of the Interfaith Response to Love Canal, on Saturday, May 1 from 9:00 a.m. – noon in the Regis Room. Participants will explore churches' response to Love Canal 25 years ago and how environmentalists and religious communities can work together toward a healthy environment in the future. Canisius Celebrates Administrative Professionals Day

The Canisius College Relations Division hosted a breakfast for its administrative staff April 21 to thank them for all the great work they do throughout the year. This was one of many recognitions on campus for the hard working administrative staff at Canisius.
