Earth Day is the Perfect Time for C3E!
Today is Earth Day.  What better time for all Canisius faculty and staff to get involved with Canisius College Conserves Energy (C3E).  This campus-wide energy conservation effort is already underway, and Canisius President Rev. Vincent M. Cooke, S.J. encourages everyone to participate.  The following C3E mission statement summarizes the goals for the program:

Canisius College is committed to operating in an environmentally responsible manner, both as an institution for higher education as well as a community member.  We seek to operate in a conscientious manner that minimizes negative environmental impact.

To meet this goal, Canisius College has adopted a proactive approach to improve our environmental performance and protect the quality of life within the campus community.  This approach includes actively promoting greater energy efficiency and recycling in all of our campus activities and incorporating lower-impact environmental practices.

Our vision is to continue Canisius College’s long tradition of leadership and academic excellence, personal concern, and an optimistic commitment to the future.  We will strive to balance the interests of the present with our responsibilities to future generations.

In early May, maintenance staff will meet with Jon Nickerson from E&E to learn about the new energy reduction policies. Watch the NetGazette for information about upcoming on-campus C3E presentations, where faculty and staff can find out how to join the effort.  A C3E Web page will also be on-line soon. For more information on C3E, contact Gary Lew, senior facilities operations manager at Ext. 2255.

Safety Tips For Crossing Main Street
To ensure crossing Main Street as safely as possible, all faculty and staff are reminded to manually activate the signal at Main Street and Eastwood Place before crossing.  When activated by the button, the signal cycle is longer than when it changes automatically and allows more time for pedestrians to cross.

The following suggestions are offered for your safety:

  • Do not cross if you arrive at the curb in the middle of the green light cycle.
  • Activate the light yourself before crossing.
  • Cross only in the crosswalk designated by a solid white line.
  • Do not cross until all vehicles come to a full stop.
  • Remember to use caution and crosswalks when crossing all streets.
