COBRA Continuation Coverage
Eligible dependents covered by your Canisius College family health insurance plan may continue coverage upon your death, divorce, or entitlement to Medicare.  To qualify for continued coverage, dependents must:

  • Be covered in a College health insurance plan at the time of the event
  • Notify the Personnel Office within 60 days of the event
  • Submit a completed election form to the Personnel Office
  • Pay the full cost of coverage

The same notification and election procedure applies to dependent children who lost eligibility for coverage under a family plan, primarily by "aging out" (passing the birthday at which coverage ends) or no longer being enrolled as a full-time college student.

Please note it is your responsibility to initiate COBRA continuation coverage.  Information and COBRA election forms for college-sponsored health insurance plans are available in the Personnel Office, Bagen Hall - Room 108.

Tax Tip
Here is a good news reminder for those of us who are suffering from the post-1040 blues.  Higher maximum tax differal limits up to $11,000 for most of us and $12,000 for those over age 50 became available to most Canisius College pension participants for the 2002 tax year.  Also effective January 1, 2002, under the Economic Growth and Tax Reconciliation Act of 2001 are potential tax credits for the first $2,000 in pension contributions for married couples with adjusted gross incomes of $50,000 or less and for individuals with adjusted gross incomes of $25,000 or less.  For additional information, contact your tax advisor.  Anyone participating in the college pension may change their contribution level up to four times in a calendar year.  Salary reduction agreement forms are available in the Personnel Office.
