Celebration of Service Recognizes Contributions of College Employees
Canisius President Rev. Vincent M. Cooke, S.J. , presents Daniel F. Dempsey, PhD, professor of physics, with a token of appreciation for 50 years of service to the college. The gift was mirror with a pen and ink picture of Christ the King Chapel and a personalized inscription.More than 50 Canisius College employees were honored Friday, April 21 at 2:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center during the college’s Celebration of Service.
Rev. Vincent M. Cooke, S.J., college president;
Ellen O. Conley, PhD, vice president for student affairs; and more than 200 family, friends, and Canisius community members were on hand to recognize faculty, staff and administrator retirements or those who have reached their 20, 25, 30, 35, 40, 45 and 50-year of service anniversaries.
The event began with an invocation by
Susan A. Fisher, associate campus minister. A musical interlude was provided by Cantio Sacra under the direction of
Kathleen Keenan-Takgi, adjunct professor of music. Each honoree walked across the stage to receive congratulations and a gift from Father Cooke, while Dr. Conley read personal citations illustrating honorees’ contributions to the college. After the ceremony, guests of honor, family, colleagues and friends were treated to a wine and cheese reception.
This is the fifth year that Canisius has held a celebration of service to recognize significant milestones in employee service. In the fall, employees who have reached five, 10 and 15 years of service are honored at the Service Recognition ceremony.
