Celebration of Service Recognizes More than 50 College Employees

More than 50 Canisius College employees were honored Friday, April 22 at 2:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center during the college’s Celebration of Service.  Rev. Vincent M. Cooke, S.J., college president; John J. Hurley, vice president for college relations; and some 200 family members, friends and members of the Canisius community were on hand to recognize faculty, staff and administrators who are retiring this year or who have reached their 20, 25, 30, 35 and 40-year service anniversaries.

Dinan, PhD, professor of chemistry and biochemistry, was honored for 40 years of service; and Raymond W. Vegso, PhD, associate professor of management and marketing, was honored for 35 years of service.

Twenty-five year honoree Marjorie A. Sheehan, secretary for the counseling center, enjoyed Friday’s festivities with her grandson, Luke.

The event began with an invocation by Rev. Thomas A. O’Connor, S.J., associate campus minister.  Pre-event entertainment was provided by the Canisius Brass Quartet members and Cantio Sacra performed a musical interlude during the service.  Each honoree walked across the stage to receive congratulations and a gift from Father Cooke, while John Hurley read personal citations illustrating the honorees' contributions to the college.  After the ceremony, guests of honor, family, colleagues and friends were treated to a wine and cheese reception.

Clark, painter; were both honored for 20 years of service. Jimmy M. Anderson, working foreman; was honored for 25 years of service.  Missing from photo but also recognized: Arthur J. O’Connor, chief stationary engineer, 25 years; and Marvline Fuqua, housekeeper; 25 years.

Margaret M. Kraatz, coordinator for the print shop, happily celebrates 20 years of service at Canisius.

This is the fourth year that Canisius has held a Celebration of Service to recognize significant milestones in employee service.  In the fall, employees who have reached five, 10 and 15 years of service are honored at the Service Recognition Ceremony.
