Canisius College to Host Traveling Hungarian Exhibit
The offices of International Student Programs and Academic Affairs present "Realization of a Dream," a Hungarian traveling exhibit, from June 9-23.

The exhibit, which commemorates 19th century nationalist Lajos Kossuth and his 1852 visit to the United States, will debut on Sunday, June 9, during a reception from 4:00 - 6:00 p.m., in the Grupp Fireside Lounge.  Geza Jeszenszky, the Hungarian ambassador to the United States, will speak at the exhibit opening.  Local leaders from the Hungarian community will also be in attendance.  The "Realization of a Dream" exhibit will then remain on display in the Bouwhuis Library from June 10 - 23 (during regular library hours).

Lajos Kossuth was the leader of the 1848 Hungarian revolution against the Hapsburg Dynasty.  When the revolution failed, Kossuth was forced into exile but his ideas on freedom and democracy earned him an invitation, in 1852, to tour the U.S. Buffalo was among the many cities he visited.  The "Realization of a Dream" exhibit features photographs from Kossuth's U.S. visit, a Hungarian flag from the period, numerous bronze plaques and rare, published books.

Spring Fest

Students celebrated the end of the 2002 academic year on Friday, May 3 with the college's traditional Spring Fest. The Koessler Athletic Center parking lot was booming with activity.  The free Chiavetta's Chicken Barbeque, cotton candy, fried dough and candy apples, just to name a few, really helped students combat that pre-exam stress!

Take Your Daughters to Work Day
Canisius welcomed a few extra employees on Thursday, April 25 as part of Take Your Daughters to Work Day.

Bob Bressler, building repairer for maintenance, and his daughter Ariel.  Ariel is 10 years old and attends Pembroke Intermediate School.   Vicki Edgerton, secretary for Multicultural Programs, and her daughter Catherine.  Catherine is 12 years old and attends Bennett Park Montessori.

It was created ten years ago by the Ms. Foundation for Women as a day when the country focuses on the possibility and potential of young women. The goal is to expose girls to work opportunities, increase their interest in education and make them feel more confident and appreciated.

What does the President of the United States, a NASA astronaut and 11 million girls have in common?  They all have participated in Take Your Daughters to Work Day.
