New GriffMail
On August 14 a new and improved version of GriffMail became available for all students, faculty and staff. The main links to GriffMail (blue box on the left) on the Current Students Web page and the Faculty & Staff Web page now point to the new GriffMail.
Major improvements include windowpanes within GriffMail that enable you to see a list of your messages, while you read a specific message in the lower pane, and compose a new message in a separate window.
Your username and password are the same for both versions. Both interfaces use the same database and are interchangeable.
If after you use the new GriffMail, you prefer Classic GriffMail, you may continue to use Classic GriffMail by clicking on the link provided on the new GriffMail page. ITS will provide access to Classic Griffmail as long as it is technically feasible.
For technical support, call the ITS Help Desk at Ext. 2299.
New Home for Personal Web Pages
Personal Web pages will be moved to a Novell server later this summer. You will have access to personal Web space through a subdirectory on your H-Drive. This will make publishing Web pages much easier. There may be additional enhancements to your Novell environment. More details will follow in future NetGazette issues.
Dinner and a Movie
Well, at least the movie! DVDs and VHS video tapes not on reserve are being moved to the circulation shelves on the first floor of the library. They will be available for browsing and loan. Faculty should contact the library if there are videos that they would prefer on permanent reserve, rather than general circulation. For further information please contact Barbara Boehnke at Ext. 2937 or Theresa Dombrowski at Ext. 2902.
Blackboard
Blackboard courses for the fall 2006 semester have been created and students currently registered have been added. We will begin to update the student adds approximately one week before classes begin and will continue to do so until the end of the drop-add period. Faculty must remove from Blackboard students who drop a course.
Workshops sponsored by the Center for Teaching Excellence (CTE) and the FacTS Center will be offered in September. To reserve a seat in one of the workshops, please visit the CTE Web site or send an E-mail Dede Johnson at johnson5@canisius.edu.
Digital Dayz
Mark your calendars. The Center for Teaching Excellence is sponsoring a full day of technology workshops and presentations on Saturday, September 23. More to come in future issues of the NetGazette.
Mobile Telephone/ Email Rental
ITS will rent a Palm Treo 700P Email-enabled telephone to faculty and staff who need to keep in touch by cell phone and E-mail while traveling. We believe there are a limited number of people who have an occasional need for this, but who cannot justify the cost of a Treo and a data plan. Departments will be charged $6.00 per day for the loan. For rental information, contact Joe Rizzo at Ext. 2455 at least 48 hours in advance. The equipment will be rented on a first-come, first-served basis. We are working on Blackberry support as well.
