Renovation Update
A lot of construction has been taking place at Canisius this summer between the renovation of buildings around campus and the completion of phase one of The Delavan Townhouses. Click on the building's name to see some of the exciting new changes . . .
Old Main - From inside to out, the renovations to Old Main are spectacular. The most visible difference to the outside of the building is the new entranceway from the Quad, which is a beautifully constructed glass enclosure that combines a new state-of-the-art design, allowing maximum lighting and view of the Quad, while maintaining the historic integrity and style of the building. Old Main now houses 50 state-of-the-art technology rooms. Equipment in the rooms range from simple audiovisual capabilities to interactive computer instruction. The parking in front of the Quad entrance to Old Main has been removed and the area is being turned into walkways and green-space. Renovations will be complete this week - so take a minute and see just how great Old Main looks!
Bagen Hall - The steps to the main entrance have been redone. The second floor of Bagen is in the mist of major renovations that include the knocking down of walls to create new office space and the addition of a bathroom that is accessible for persons with physical disabilities. Renovations to Bagen Hall are scheduled for completion in the fall.
Koessler Athletic Center - Phase one of the renovation project at the Koessler Athletic Center (KAC) is nearing completion. The old tile was removed from the ceiling in the basketball court and the ceiling was then painted white. The court is now equipped with additional lighting and electrical wiring.
Construction is underway in the squash court. The area below the court is being turned into storage space and above the court, new conference rooms and offices are being designed for the Sports Information Department.
Also, in August, KAC received a new air-conditioning unit for the main gymnasium, the unit was hoisted onto the roof of the Koessler by a 210-ton crane. Phase one renovations are scheduled for completion this fall.
Phase two, which includes new bleacher seating and flooring in the basketball court, is scheduled for completion in fall 2002.
Churchill Tower - Offices on the tenth and eleventh floors of the Tower have been re-painted and new carpeting has been laid. Religious Studies and the Modern Language Department (formerly located on the 11th floor of the Tower) are on the tenth floor; department offices for Sociology and Anthropology, Deaf Education (formerly in the Wehle Technology Center) and Teacher Education are on the eleventh floor.
Wehle Technology Center - The walkway in front of Wehle has been expanded. The bus stop in front of the building was moved and lighting has been installed to brighten the path. New carpeting was laid in various rooms on the second and third floors. The Math Department moved from Churchill Tower to the Wehle Technology Center. The Computer Science Department still resides on the second floor of Wehle.
Delavan Townhouses - This fall, Canisius students begin moving into the Delavan Townhouses, the college's newest residence facility located on West Delavan Avenue. Canisius broke ground on the townhouse complex last September in an effort to meet the need for increased student housing. The new residence facility is being constructed in two phases. The first phase which is now complete, includes 192 undergraduate beds in 2, 3, 4 and 5 single bedroom apartments and a community center with classroom and study spaces, lounges, meeting rooms, laundry facilities and offices.
The second phase will add another 131 beds in two buildings fronting on Harvard Place and will be ready for occupancy in fall 2002.

Dean Shick Steps Down
At the end of the 2001-2002 academic year, Dr. Richard Shick, dean of the Wehle School of Business, steps down as dean and returns to the classroom to teach economics and finance.
"Over the past 22 years Dick has helped the business school meet and exceed many goals. Under his leadership the Wehle Business School has received accreditation from the prestigious AACSB- International Association for Management Education and enrollment in the program has grown by 70 percent," stated Rev.
