Annual NYS Fire Inspection
The annual NYS fire inspection of the Canisius College campus is scheduled for Monday, September 12, 2005. This is a change from previous years when it was conducted in December. If events proceed as they have in the past, the inspector will be on campus through September 21 or 22. To prepare for the inspection, please note the following key points:
- Maintain unobstructed paths to all exits.
- Keep stairways and landings clutter free. NOTHING can be stored on a landing or stair.
- Keep fire extinguishers unobstructed.
- Do not use mechanical or electrical rooms for storage.
- Remove all extension cords. They are not permitted at a permanent workstation.
- Maintain the following clearances in storage areas:
a. If room has sprinklers, no higher than 18" from ceiling.
b. If no sprinklers, no higher than 24" from ceiling.
- Insure every hall has at least 48" of unobstructed egress (width).
- Keep fire doors closed, unless they are equipped with magnetic closures. Doorstops are not permitted on fire doors.
- Insure all emergency lighting is functional and exit signs are illuminated.
- Secure ALL compressed gas cylinders with chains or other suitable devices.
Our first two annual inspections were very successful and generated favorable comments from the state inspector. With everyone’s cooperation we will do equally as well this year.

Leave the Driving and Parking to the NFTA
Did you know that Canisius College offers a tax savings program for NFTA commuters? Faculty and staff may purchase a monthly flash-a-pass for $55.00, suburban flash-a-pass for $66.00 or 20 tokens for $27.00. All purchases are made on a pre-tax basis – providing another savings for those using the NFTA.
How does it work? Orders must be placed by the 15th of the month for passes effective the first of the following month. Purchases will be made with pre-tax dollars simply by completing a pre-tax election form. If you are interested in participating, please call Jennifer Skowron in human resources at Ext. 2247 by the 15th of the month. The cost will be deducted from your next paycheck.
