Tenured and Promoted Faculty Honored at Reception

The Bouwhuis Library was the setting for a celebratory reception on September 10 to recognize the college’s 12 newly tenured and promoted professors.  Hosted by the library and information and technology services, the annual ceremony formally honored the following faculty members: Nicki M. Calabrese, PhD, Department of Education and Mark Hodin, PhD, Department of English who were granted tenure and promoted to associate professors.  Khalid W. Bibi, PhD, Department of Sports Medicine/Health and Human Performance; Joseph G. Glynn, PhD, Department of Management/Marketing and Michael V. Haselswerdt, PhD, Department of Political Science were promoted to professor. Four faculty were granted Emeritus status, including Joseph F. Bieron, PhD, Department of Chemistry and Biochemistry; Rev. Robert A. Haus, S.J., Department of Mathematics and Statistics; Stanley C.W. Salvary, PhD Department of Accounting; and J. David Valaik, PhD, Department of History.  In addition Marjorie L. Harrington, PhD, Department of Deaf Education and Howard Stanger, PhD, Department of Management and Marketing and Efstratios Prassidis, PhD, Department of Mathematics & Statistics were granted tenure.
 
To signify their achievements, the library will add 12 new books to its main collection.  Each book was selected by a newly promoted or tenured professor and will include a personal dedication on the inside cover.  The books and a reproduction of the dedications will remain on display in the library for one month before being added to the shelves.

Meet Canisius’ Newest Faculty Members
Canisius welcomes 13 new faculty members this fall. During the next few issues of the NetGazette, we will introduce you to the newest members of the campus community.

Brian P. Dunkle, S.J., assistant professor of classics, holds an AB in classics (Latin) from Harvard University, a master’s degree in Greek and Latin languages and literature from Oxford University, and a master’s degree in philosophical resources from Fordham University.

David Foley, PhD, assistant professor of political science, holds a bachelor’s and master’s degree in political science from the State University of New York at Buffalo. He also earned a PhD in comparative and international politics from UB.

Uriah Yong-Hwan Kim, PhD, assistant professor of religious studies and theology, holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from New York University, a master’s of divinity degree from Princeton Theological Seminary, a master’s of theology degree from Emory University and a PhD in biblical studies from the Graduate Theological Union.

Brian R. LaValley is assistant professor of communication studies and director of the master’s program in organizational communication and development. He holds a bachelor’s degree in public communication from Syracuse University and a master’s degree in business administration from St. Bonaventure University. 

Jamie O’Neill, assistant professor of digital media arts, holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Boston University, a master’s degree in fine arts from the State University of New York at Buffalo.
