Laboratory and Classroom Software Changes for Fall 2008
It’s that time of year again. If you have any software changes or requirements for your fall 2008 courses, you must contact ITS as soon as possible. Any changes must be requested no later than Tuesday, June 2, 2008.

On the Windows PC side, the lab and classrooms will still run Windows XP for the operating system and the Microsoft Office 2007 application suite. The Macintosh platform will run on OS 10.5 Leopard and the Microsoft Office 2008 suite.

If you have any questions or requests for Windows computers, please contact Lisa Mastropaolo at Ext. 8376 or send an E-mail at mastropl@canisius.edu.  For the Macintosh computers, please contact Scott Clark at Ext. 8357 or send an E-mail to clarks@canisius.edu.

Adobe Software at Educational Prices
Have you ever wanted to purchase an Adobe product for home use, but thought it was too expensive? Well, Canisius College and Adobe have entered into a campus licensing agreement that permits you to buy selected software at educational prices.  Go to the School World Web site to see how reasonable the prices are for these products.

Blackboard Will Be Gone
On May 16 the college’s Blackboard license will end and it will be taken out of service.  If you have any material that you want to archive, such as grade books, please export them before May 16. Make sure that you also sign up for ANGEL training.  Go to the CTE Web site for dates and locations.  Training sessions will be scheduled throughout the remainder of this academic semester and through the summer.

Canisius will adopt Google Apps for Education
Next fall, students will be able to choose GMail and Google Apps for Education instead of GriffMail. New students who enter in spring 2008 and after will only receive a Gmail account. Students will retain Canisius E-mail addresses (canisius.edu) in this new environment and will be able to keep these E-mail addresses after graduation. Among the reasons for adopting Google’s products are:
  • It is a more responsive and searchable E-mail system
  • Google apps for education lends itself to a mobile population for word processing, spreadsheet and presentation applications
  • Students will have Canisius College-specific, personalized start page
If you would like to discuss this change in more detail, call Joel Cohen at Ext. 2909.
