Recommended Configuration for Students
If you are purchasing a new Windows compatible computer, you will want a model at least as capable as the following:
- Pentium processor, 1.66 GHz or faster
- 2 GB memory
- 80 GB or larger hard disk
- Windows XP or Windows Vista operating system
- Integrated Ethernet card
- CD/DVD or better optical drive
- Internet Explorer 7.0 and/or Firefox 3.0+
- Microsoft Office 2007 (recommended)
Wireless Network Access
Students who choose a laptop computer may want to add a wireless network card to the above configuration for wireless access to the campus network. With a laptop computer, an appropriate operating system (as recommended above), and wireless network capability (802.11g wireless protocol) users will have access to the Internet, library materials, and other services with no wires attached in many campus locations, including the Library, Old Main, Student Center and many residence halls.
