December ArtsCanisius Programs


BUFFALO, NY – ArtsCanisius presents the following performances, which are free and open to the public:

Wednesday, December 4 – Cantio Sacra, under the direction of Bradley Wingert, performs at 1 p.m. in Science Hall. Cantio Sacra is a small choral ensemble comprised of students, faculty and staff that is dedicated to performing sacred music for college events.

Friday, December 6 – The Canisius College Chorale, under the direction of Frank Scinta, performsat 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.

Saturday, December 7 – Canisius College Concert Band, under the direction of Paul D. Biddle, and the Canisius College Jazz Ensemble, under the direction of Dave Schiavone, perform at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center.

Sunday, December 8 ― Canisius College Chamber Orchestra, under the direction of Ansgarius Aylward, performs at 7:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. Karen Schmid, piano, will be the soloist. The program will feature Mozart Piano Concerto #17 in G major, K 453.

Schmid, a Buffalo native, has performed nationally and internationally in recital as a soloist and in master classes. A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and the Julliard School, she built her own fortepiano, a replica of a 1774 Stein – Mozart’s own piano. Schmid has performed at Canisius College, State University of New York at Buffalo, the Boston Early Music Festival, the Monuments en Musique Series in France and NPR’s “Baroque and Beyond Series,” among others. She has taught piano as a member of the Canisius College Fine Arts Department Faculty since 2005.

Parking during ArtsCanisius events is available in all Canisius lots except Loyola Hall.

The ArtsCanisius series at Canisius College presents concerts by professional musicians, including members of the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra and Canisius faculty, art shows and lectures by professional artists, as well as student recitals.
