Steve Forbes Addresses Class of 2006
Ceremonies held on May 17, 2006

Steve Forbes, editor in chief of
Forbes magazine and president and CEO of its publisher, Forbes Inc., addressed the Canisius College Class of 2006 during graduate commencement ceremonies Wednesday night in the Koessler Athletic Center.
Forbes told the 275 master’s degree graduates to find their passion in life. “The key to your life is finding your passion; what it is that you’re good at,” said Forbes. “Then, figure out how to make a living at it.” Forbes added, “There is nothing worse than going through life living just for weekends.”
He told graduates that a successful career, like most great things in life, is a result of “hard, usually ugly, unglamorous work.” Quoting Thomas Edison, Forbes said that “Success comes from one percent inspiration and 99 percent perspiration.”
Forbes also warned graduates to be prepared for setbacks noting that his grandfather, Malcolm S. Forbes Sr., nearly went bankrupt during the Depression. He urged graduates to pick up the pieces after each setback and remain steadfast even when everything is falling down around them.
Forbes and Wilson Greatbatch, inventor of the cardiac pacemaker and lithium battery, received honorary degrees at the ceremony.
