Video Institute Hosts El Salvador Screening

February 4 at 7 p.m.

The Canisius College Video Institute will premiere three video documentaries produced in El Salvador on Monday, February 4 at 7:00 pm in the Grupp Fireside Lounge located in the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center.

The evening will begin with live Latin music. Video screenings and discussion will follow at 7:30 p.m. The event, which is free and open to the public, includes a reception featuring Latin-inspired desserts.

The following three short documentaries will be screened: "Christianity on the Road Less Traveled,” highlighting the Canisius program directed by Timothy Wadkins, PhD, associate professor of religious studies and theology at Canisius College, "Faith in Flames," a brief documentary about Pentecostalism in El Salvador, and "Centro Arte para la Paz," a video produced to assist the Center for Peace through the Arts in Suchitoto with their mission to contribute to a culture of peace.

Student producers Jennifer Eberhart (COM '08) and Sarah Velasquez (COM '07) will be on hand to discuss their experiences in producing the videos.

The Canisius College Video Institute provides students with the opportunity to put their classroom lessons to work on projects that will benefit the college and the community at large. Students produce documentaries and promotional videos for local and international not-for-profit and service agencies that otherwise would not have the resources to tell their stories in this way.

The Canisius College Video Institute is funded in part by the John R. Oishei Foundation and directed by Barbara Irwin, Ph.D., chair of the Communication Studies department.
