Stanton To Address Graduate Class Of ‘08

Former Goldman Sachs Partner, Managing Director Daniel W. Stanton '79 to give address on Wednesday, May 14 at 7 p.m.

BUFFALO, NY – Daniel W. Stanton will address the Canisius College Class of 2008 during graduate commencement ceremonies on Wednesday, May 14 at 7:00 p.m. at the Koessler Athletic Center on Main Street. Approximately 275 graduate degrees will be conferred. Stanton will receive an honorary degree during commencement ceremonies, along with David C. Hohn, MD, executive director of health policy and president emeritus of Roswell Park Cancer Institute.

A 1979 alumnus of Canisius College, Stanton is founding principal of Samson Capital Advisors LLC, a fixed income investment manager in Palm Beach, FL, and a former general partner and managing director of Goldman Sachs Group Inc., a leading global investment banking, securities and investment management firm. He joined the Goldman Sachs Group in 1981, after earning an MBA from Columbia University Graduate Business School. Stanton was named general partner in 1994.

Throughout his 22-year career, Stanton managed Goldman Sachs’ global Private Wealth Management business. He started and managed its Global Securities Services business, and served as head of Equities Institutional Sales in the United States, responsible for the senior team that coordinated the firm’s largest institutional client relationships. His global responsibilities also included a role as chief of the firm’s German businesses, which Sachs in 2003 and founded Samson Capital that same year.

Stanton established The Daniel W. Stanton Associate Professor of Business, Finance and Economics Professorship at Columbia Business School. Most recently, he committed $1 million to create The Daniel W. Stanton ’79 Scholarship Program at Canisius College. Scholarships will be awarded to students with exceptional academic merit and demonstrated financial need.

Stanton is former member of the Canisius College Board of Trustees and Board of Regents. In the late 1990s, he served as the alumni co-chair of the college’s Imagine Canisius capital campaign. A 1999 recipient of the college’s Distinguished Alumni Award, Stanton is also a member of its DiGamma Honor Society. He holds a BA in finance from Canisius College and an MBA in finance from Columbia University.
