2009 Francophone Film Festival Scheduled

Buffalo, NY – The Department of Modern Languages at Canisius College will present a Francophone Film Festival from Tuesday, February 17 through Sunday, February 22, 2009. All film screenings will be shown in the Montante Cultural Center located at the corner of Main Street and Eastwood Place. Parking will be available for the event in the college’s parking ramp at the corner of Jefferson and Delavan Avenues.
The following film screenings are free and open to the public and include a discussion with a Canisius College faculty member.

PERSEPOLIS (2007): An Academy award-nominated animated feature follows the life of a young girl coming of age in Iran during the Islamic revolution.
Thursday, February 19, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
LA FAUTE A FIDEL (2006): Nine-year-old Anna must adapt to some radical changes in her life when her parents become left-wing revolutionaries following her uncle's death by Franco's police force and her aunt's exile.
Friday, February 20, 2009 at 7:00 p.m.
LA MOUSTACHE (2005): Marc impulsively shaves off the moustache he’s worn his entire adult life right before he and his wife join friends for dinner. When no one at the dinner table notices the difference and insists Marc hasn't worn a moustache for years, if ever, he struggles to understand his friends' lack of reaction. His friends begin to question Marc's sanity.

DELWENDE (2005): Based on a true story, this mother-daughter tale focuses on the injustice of some traditional African practices and women's struggle for equality.
Sunday, February 22, 2009 at 3:00 p.m. Post-screening refreshments included.
L'ORIGINE DE LA TENDRESSE (2005-07): This selection of six short films depicts a variety of genres and subjects--from documentaries on an Algerian woman's immigration to France and the final day of a French factory's operation to fiction shorts depicting everyday people including Parisian commuters, a museum attendant, and a couple preparing a lobster dinner.
Presented by the college’s Department of Modern Languages, the film festival is made possible by a 2008-2009 Tournées Film Festival Grant and by co-sponsorship by the college’s Departments of English and Communications Studies, as well as Campus Programming and Leadership Development. The Tournées Festival, a program of the French American Cultural Exchange (FACE), is sponsored by the Cultural Services of the French Embassy, the French Ministry of Culture (CNC), the Franco-American Cultural Fund, the Grand Marnier Foundation, the Florence Gould Foundation, highbrow entertainment and agnès b.
