Video Institute Students Produce Local Television Show
New episode of Kaleidoscope premieres this Sunday, April 5
A new episode of
Kaleidoscope, a collaboration between the Canisius College Video Institute and the Network of Religious Communities, premieres this Sunday, April 5 on WGRZ-TV Channel 2.
Kaleidoscope is a multi-faith television program of and about the religious communities of Western New York.
The Video Institute has produced the television program since January 2008. In the Spring 2009 semester, communication studies and digital media arts majors enrolled in a course taught by Professor of Communication Studies Barbara Irwin, PhD and Paula DeAngelis-Stein ’86, MEd 2002, have the opportunity to research, write and produce their own segments, both in the field and in the studio, for
Kaleidoscope.
Hosted by Rev. Stephen Phelps, this episode features reflections from two Holocaust survivors, a segment on music in the Jewish faith, and a Jewish-Catholic dialogue with Rev. Francis Mazur and Rabbi David Novak.
Kaleidoscope airs on the first Sunday of every month on WGRZ-TV at 6:00 a.m. and on Time Warner Cable Channel 20 every Friday at 6:30 p.m. The production is made possible with assistance from the Canisius College Media Center and the Center for the Global Study of Religion.

The Canisius College Video Institute provides students with the opportunity to put their classroom lessons to work on projects that will benefit the college and the community at large. Students produce documentaries and promotional videos for local and international not-for-profit and service agencies that otherwise would not have the resources to tell their stories in this way.
The Canisius College Video Institute is funded in part by the John R. Oishei Foundation and directed by Irwin, chair of the Communication Studies department.
