Video Institute Documentary Earns National Awards

“Southern India: A Collision of Cultures” awarded two Bronze Telly Awards

The Canisius College Video Institute documentary “Southern India: A Collision of Cultures” was recently awarded two Bronze Telly Awards in the categories of “Student Production” and “Documentary.”

Student producers, Scott Richardson ’09 and Jennifer Eberhart ’08, worked under the supervision of Barbara Irwin, PhD, professor and chair of the Communication Studies Department.

The Telly Awards honor outstanding local, regional, and cable TV commercials and programs, as well as the finest video and film productions. The Video Institute project was in competition with national and international production companies, advertising agencies, cable operators and corporate video departments. The bronze Telly is the second-highest award given in this competition, and only approximately 20 percent of the 14,000 entries earn this recognition.

“Southern India” has also been competitively selected for screening at the 3rd Annual Buffalo Niagara Film Festival (BNFF). The documentary will be screened on Monday, May 4, 2009 at 4:45 p.m. at the Market Arcade Film and Arts Centre. To purchase tickets, please click here.

The Canisius College Video Institute provides students with the opportunity to put their classroom lessons to work on projects that will benefit the college and the community at large. Students produce documentaries and promotional videos for local and international not-for-profit and service agencies that otherwise would not have the resources to tell their stories in this way.

The Canisius College Video Institute is funded in part by the John R. Oishei Foundation and directed by Barbara Irwin, Ph.D., chair of the Communication Studies department.
