Buffalo, NY – Canisius College Professor of Economics Patricia A. Hutton, PhD, received the Jack Kahl Entrepreneurial Leadership Award from SIFE USA during the opening ceremonies of the SIFE USA National Exposition held in Philadelphia, PA on May 10, 2009. The award was presented to Hutton by Canisius SIFE President Caleigh Weatherup ’10.
The award honors the Sam Walton Free Enterprise Fellows from two colleges/universities who have done the most to advance the entire SIFE organization during the current academic year, and who have made outstanding contributions to SIFE students and the SIFE team on their campus, including helping students with career placement. Hutton founded Canisius SIFE in spring, 2004.
The award, which includes a plaque and a fully-paid trip to the SIFE World Cup in Berlin, Germany in October 2009, is courtesy of an endowed contribution made by the adult children of Jack Kahl, former SIFE chairman of the board, founder and CEO of Manco and author of Leading from the Heart.
At Canisius, Hutton holds a Peter Tower Professorship, which provides resources to support innovative programs for students that help foster entrepreneurship, innovation and economic development in Western New York. She has previously been honored with the Kenneth L. Koessler Distinguished Faculty Award, the Dr. I. Joan Lorch Award for significant contributions to women at the college, the Canisius College Women’s Business Center Coach of the Year Award, the Wehle School of Business Faculty Service Learning Award and the Canisius College Faculty Advisor of the Year Award.
SIFE is an international, non-profit organization that works with leaders in higher education and in business to mobilize university students to make a difference in their communities while developing the skills to become socially responsible business leaders. Participating students work in teams, applying business concepts to develop outreach projects that improve the quality of life and standard of living for people in need. An annual series of regional and national competitions provides a forum for teams to present the results of their projects, and to be evaluated by business leaders serving as judges.
