Canisius Presents Spanish Play “Boxcar”
Wednesday, November 4 at 7 p.m.
BUFFALO, NY – Canisius College will present “Boxcar” (“Vagón”), a Spanish language play, on Wednesday, November 4 at 7:00 p.m. in the Marie Maday Theater, located in Lyons Hall. The performance is free and open to the public.
Presented entirely in Spanish, “Boxcar” is based on a true story by Silvia Gonzalez S. It follows five men whose longings for a better life and the need to feed their families sends them on a fatal journey. Trapped inside a boxcar in the sweltering Arizona heat, their desire to reach the American dream transcends the imminent risk of the trip. The lives of these five men cross with that of a border patrol officer who is faced with an inner struggle of fulfilling his duty or following his conscience as the son of immigrants.
The play is being sponsored by the Academic Talent Search Program at Canisius, in addition to the Canisius’ Opportunity Programs for Education (COPE) Office, the Latin American Students and Friends (LASAF) club and the Office of Multicultural Programs at Canisius.
“Boxcar” is intended for high school audiences and older. Seating is limited therefore doors will open at 6:30 p.m. In addition, 100 English translation headsets will be available to those audience members in need, however proper ID will be required.
