Harvard Law Professor, Expert on Race Relations, to Speak at Canisius
BUFFALO, NY ― The Canisius College Frank G. Raichle Lecture Series on Law in American Society will welcome Randall L. Kennedy to campus on Tuesday, March 19 at 8:00 p.m. in the Grupp Fireside Lounge. The event, “The Idea of Colorblindness in American Law and Life,” is free and open to the public.
Kennedy is the Michael R. Klein Professor of law at Harvard University where he specializes in the intersection of racial conflict and legal institutions in American life. Kennedy previously served as a law clerk for Judge J. Skelly Wright of the United States Court of Appeals and as a law clerk for Justice Thurgood Marshall of the United States Supreme Court. He is a member of the bar of the District of Columbia and the Supreme Court of the United States.
Kennedy has written five books including The Persistence of the Color Line: Racial Politics and the Obama Presidency (2011), Sellout: the Politics of Racial Betrayal (2008), Interracial Intimacies: Sex, Marriage, Identity, and Adoption (2003), Nigger: The Strange Career of a Troublesome Word (2002) and Race, Crime, and the Law, which won the Robert F. Kennedy Book Award. Randall Kennedy has contributed to dozens of books, scholarly journals and general interest publications including The Harvard Law Review, The New Republic, The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, The Wall Street Journal, The New York Times and Time Magazine.
Kennedy is the recipient of multiple awards including the Distinguished Alumni Award from the Association of Black Princeton Alumni. He was awarded an honorary degree by Haverford College and is a former trustee of Princeton University.
Kennedy holds a juris doctor degree from Yale University Law School. He obtained a bachelor’s degree from Princeton University and attended Balliol College of Oxford University.
