Barbara J. Irwin, PhD, chair of communication studies and co-director of the Canisius College Video Institute, appeared on “Winging it Buffalo Style” on CW23 on May 23 (the last day that The Oprah Winfrey Show aired). The topic of the show was how viewers would cope with the void left by the loss of the show. Irwin discussed the parasocial relationship that viewers have with characters/personalities on television.

Professor of Political Science Michael V. Haselswerdt, PhD, discussed voter turnout in the 26th Congressional district’s special election in the Tonawanda News on May 23. On February 17 Angelini was a guest on “Carte Blanche” with Vincent Dureault and on February 19 and was on “Les Samedis du Monde” with Suzanne Kennelly. Angelini discussed how she uses the story “Le Chandail de hockey” (The Hockey Sweater) by Roch Carrier to teach her students the importance of American Maurice Richard for francophone Canada.

Business First ran an article on Canisius’ creation of an institute to study autism spectrum disorders in children on November 30, 2009. On October 23, 2009, Business First ran an article that John J. Hurley was named the 24th president of Canisius College.

The college’s “Freedom Without Walls” program was featured on The Buffalo News picture page on November 6 and on WKBW-TV’s evening newscasts on November 5.

Peter Böhm, PhD, associate professor of modern languages, discussed the college’s “Freedom Without Walls” program on YNN, Time Warner’s News network, at 12:30 p.m. on November 4. The story re-ran multiple times during the day.  

MexiCanisius Night was featured on WIVB-TV’s 11 p.m. newscast on October 23.

He discussed the Buffalo mayoral race on Channel 4’s evening newscast on September 9 and the possibility that former New York Governor Elliot Spitzer may run for office on Channel 2’s evening newscasts on September 1.

Barbara J. Irwin, PhD, professor of communication studies, discussed Diane Sawyer as the replacement for the retiring Charles Gibson as the anchor for ABC’s World News Tonight on WBEN-AM radio news on September 2 and 3.

On August 6, Business First posted an article on their Web site on New York State Regent Board of Regents member Robert Bennett joining the Canisius College faculty. 

Michael Noonan, professor of biology/psychology discussed the college’s new animal behavior major in an article that Business First ran on their Web site on August 3.

WBKW-TV and WGRZ-TV ran stories on Canisius College students moving in to the dormitories on Friday, August 21 on their 5 p.m. and 6 p.m. newscasts.

Matthew H. Mulville, associate dean of students and director of residence life, discussed the college’s plan for a possible swine flu outbreak on WGRZ TV’s evening newscasts on Friday, August 21.

Michael V. Haselswerdt, PhD, professor of political science, was interviewed by WGRZ-TV on July 16 regarding the race for Buffalo mayor. He discussed local town supervisors who attempted political reform and ended up disenchanted in an article in The Buffalo News on July 20. On June 29, Haselswerdt commented on the partisan struggle for New York State Senate on WGRZ-TV’s evening newscasts.

Melinda Rath Sanderson, executive director of the Women’s Business Center, discussed the center’s services in an article in Business First on July 24.

Peter J. Galie, PhD, professor of political science, discussed the appointment of a lieutenant governor for New York State in an article in The Buffalo News on July 14 and on WNEN-AM radio’s “Hardline” program on July 12. He discussed the New York State Constitution on Channel 2’s evening newscast on July 7. Galie also commented on the fact that New York State lacked a lieutenant governor in an article in The Buffalo News on June 28.

Thomas J. Caulfield, PhD, professor emeritus of counselor education, had an editorial published in The Buffalo News on June 28 regarding his experience with opening day of Woodlawn High School in Buffalo

Peter J. Galie, PhD, chair and professor of political science and director of the Raichle Pre-law center discussed how the Democrats and Republicans are battling over the New York State Senate in an article in the Syracuse Journal on June 18.  He also commented on the issue in regards to New York State Constitutional Law on YNN on the same date.

He discussed the Erie County Legislature race and pay raise issues while he was a Tonawanda Councilman in an article in The Buffalo News on May 19.

In The Buffalo News May 18 edition, Hardwick announced that he will challenge Kenmore Democrat Michelle Iannello for District 10’s seat in the Erie County Legislature.
