A variety of performances are scheduled for March

BUFFALO, NY –ArtsCanisius will present the following March performances:

· Sunday, March 10 – Student and Faculty Recital, will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the college’s Christ the King Chapel. Admission is free and open to the public.

· Monday, March 11 – Meet the Faculty Recital, featuring Dr. Richard Falkenstein, adjunct professor of music, on lute at 12:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. Admission is free and open to the public.

· Tuesday, March 12 – Persis Vehar, Canisius College Composer-in-Residence, will discuss “Recording or Live” at 2:30 p.m. in Lyons Hall, Room 118. Vehar will discuss the differences in preparation, performance and follow-through between making a CD and performing in a live concert. Admission is free and open to the public.

· Monday, March 18 – Concert of Women’s Music, featuring Persis Vehar, Canisius College Composer-in-Residence, on piano; Ansgarius Alyward, adjunct professor of music, on violin; and Bryan Eckenrode, adjunct professor of music, on cello. The performance will be held at 7:00 p.m. in the college’s Montante Cultural Center. The trio will perform works by women composers including Rebecca Clarke, Germaine Tailleferre, Julia Smith and Louise Talma, in honor of women’s history month. Admission is free and open to the public.

· March 23-24 – Canisius College Composers Weekend, designed to provide an opportunity to hear new musical compositions and promote interaction among Western New York student composers. Admission is free and open to the public

Saturday, March 23 – Canisius College Composers’ Concert, featuring Persis Vehar, Canisius College Composer-in-Residence and Michael Colquhoun, adjunct associate professor of music. Vehar and Colquhoun will discuss and perform their compositions at 7:00 p.m. in the college’s Montante Cultural Center.

Sunday, March 24 – Student Composers’ Concert and Workshop, will be held at 2:00 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center, beginning with a performance featuring high school and student composers from Western New York. Persis Vehar, Canisius College Composer-in-Residence and Michael Colquhoun, adjunct associate professor of music, will discuss their works with the composers and hold an informal question-answer period about compositions.

· Monday, March 25 – Meet-the-Faculty Recital, presents an “Afternoon of Jazz” at 12:30 p.m. in the Montante Cultural Center. The performance will feature Dave Schiavone, adjunct assistant professor of music, on woodwinds; pianist Michael T. Jones, a graduate of Overland Conservatory who has recorded with musicians such as Keter Betts, Etta Jones, Steve Gadd and Michael Civisca; and bassist Paul LaDuca, a graduate of Berklee College of Music who has toured with artists such as Joshua Redman, Donald Byrd and Ellis Marsalis. The trio will perform works by Ray Noble, John Coltrane, Dave Schiavone, Charlie Parker and more.
