High School Poetry Contest Winners
Contest is part of college's annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration
Buffalo, NY – Canisius College announces the winners of its high school poetry contest held in conjunction with the annual Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. celebration on campus.
Cosponsored by just buffalo literary center, the poetry contest was open to all City of Buffalo high school students. Students were asked to write poems about the ideals and values of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
The winners are:
Joshua Spera, a sophomore from Turner/Carroll High School, won first place and $200 for his poem, “Fulfilled Dreams.”
Second place honors and $100 went to Alisha G. Gaston, a junior at Holy Angels Acdemy, for her poem, “The Color of Freedom.”
Zach Rojek, a freshman at City Honors High School, won third place and $50 for his poem, “Martin Luther King, ‘let freedom ring.’”
