New Director Of Public Safety Named
Interim director named to post
Gary M. Everett has been named director of Public Safety at Canisius College.
A 20-year veteran in the Public Safety Office at Canisius, Everett has been serving as interim director in the department since July 1, 2001. Previously, Everett served nearly three years as assistant director of Public Safety. As second in command for the department, he supervised the uniformed patrol service and provided security for special details, dignitary visits and sporting events. He also planned, developed, coordinated and implemented programs and strategies that provided broad-based services to the college and its community.
Everett has been a member of the Buffalo Special Police for more than 28 years and last fall, Erie County Sheriff Patrick Gallivan ’82 appointed him to the local Homeland Security Taskforce. A member of the American Association of Law Enforcement Trainers, Everett is also a member of the International Association of Chiefs of Police and FBI certified as a defensive tactics instructor.
In 1998, Everett’s dedication to criminal justice was recognized by then Buffalo Police Commissioner R. Gil Kerlikowske who presented him with a Police Certificate of Appreciation. Everett is also the recipient of the Canisius College Leadership Award and an official commendation from the city of Buffalo mayor’s office.
Everett holds an associate’s degree in criminal justice from Genesee Community College and a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice from Chadwick University in Birmingham, Alabama.
