Spirituality In America Is Topic Of Discussion

Robert Wuthnow, Ph.D. to give lecture entitled “Spirituality: Dwelling & Seeking"

Buffalo, NY - The Center for the Global Study of Religion at Canisius College will welcome Robert Wuthnow, Ph.D., professor of sociology at Princeton University, on Monday, April 29, 2002 at 2:30 p.m. in the Regis Room North, located on the second floor of the Richard E. Winter ’42 Student Center. Dr. Wuthnow’s lecture, entitled “Spirituality: Dwelling & Seeking,” is part of the center’s Conversations in Christ and Culture Lecture Series. The event is free and open to the public but guests are asked to donate a non-perishable food item to help supply the local Food Pantry.

Considered to be one of the most informed and insightful commentators on religion in America today, Wuthnow is the Gerhard R. Andlinger Professor of Sociology and Director of the Center for the Study of American Religion at Princeton University. He is the author of more than 35 books including Creative Spirituality: The Way of the Artist; After Heaven: Spirituality in America Since the 1950s; and Loose Connections: Joining Together in America’s Fragmented Communities. Wuthnow is currently directing a Pew-funded project exploring the public role of mainline Protestantism in America since the 1960s.

The Conversations in Christ and Culture lecture series is an ecumenical lecture, workshop and conference series designed to expose the local Christian community to internationally known speakers. The purpose is to foster conversations about important issues involving the relationship between Christianity and culture, and to promote cooperation and understanding across religious, gender and ethnic issues. The lecture series is funded through the generosity of the ecumenical community of Western New York, the Canisius Center for the Global Study of Religion and the John R. Oishei Foundation.
