Welcome to Canisius College! We are excited that you have chosen to become part of the Canisius family and we are looking forward to providing you with a solid beginning to your undergraduate education. To this end, we have designed a New Student Orientation program to take care of this all-important first step in your college success.
Our mandatory 5-day summer New Student Orientation (NSO) program for all incoming first year and transfer students will begin on Wednesday, August 22 and run through Sunday, August 26, 2012. The New Student Summer Orientation program includes resident student move-in day, a student services fair, New Student Convocation and Blessing, an academic day, a student life day, various workshops, nightly entertainment, as well as multiple opportunities that will build community and tradition among all students.
New Student Orientation August 22-26, 2012
In an effort to assist you with your transition to Canisius, we strongly encourage you to attend the entire 5-day program. However, we have designed the program to meet your busy lifestyle. Please note the following requirements for New Student Orientation:
- Freshmen students are required to attend Wednesday, August 22 – Saturday, August 25, 2012. Although highly encouraged, Sunday, August 26 will be optional.
- Transfer students are required to attend Wednesday, August 22 to Friday, August 24, 2012. Saturday, August 25th and Sunday, August 26th will be optional. However, we hope that you will continue to participate in the events on both optional days including the Group Activity and Student Activities Fair on Saturday.
- Parents and families are invited to attend and participate in the New Student Orientation activities on Wednesday, August 22, 2012. In the past, parents have found this day very informative and we encourage them to join us.
New Student Orientation 2012 Fees
The New Student Orientation fee for August 2012 is as follows and will appear on your fall 2012 tuition bill:
- Freshmen - $200 per student (also includes 2 guests)
- Transfer - $120 per student (also includes 2 guests)
Guests are welcome to attend orientation events on Wednesday, August 22. If you choose to bring more than two guests, there will be a non-refundable charge of $25 for each additional guest. Payment for any additional guests, if any, must be made online at the time of registration and may be made by credit card or e-check.
New Student Orientation 2012 Registration
Registration for New Student Orientation will only be available online beginning April 15, 2012. You must register through the my.Canisus New Student Portal. To access the New Student Portal, you will need your Canisius username and password that was issued to you at the time of your acceptance. If you do not know or have misplaced your username or password, please contact the Information Technology Services (ITS) Help Desk at 716-888-2299.
In order to accommodate the needs of all students and families, it is important that you register online by August 8, 2012.
A note for incoming International Students (excluding Canadian students)! Please DO NOT REGISTER for New Student Orientation on this web page. It is very important that you arrive on campus by August 17, 2012. Please contact the Office of International Student Programs at (716) 888-2784 for more information.
The New Student Summer Orientation schedule will also be available to for you to review beginning May 1, 2012.
