"My experience with the German program at Canisius College has been nothing short of life changing. Before starting the program, I had modest expectations of learning the language well enough to carry on simple conversations. Seven years later, I have lived in Germany on three separate occasions, traveled the entire country, made numerous German friends, and even completed my masters degree, there. Now, living in the United States, I do international business with German business partners on a weekly basis and find myself in constant contact with colleagues overseas. Though my experience may be unique, the Canisius College German Department opened the doors necessary for me to tailor my future.
While studying at Canisius, I found the German program to be incredibly flexible and conducive to the pursuit of an “international” lifestyle and career. Offering international immersion courses and activities, the German Department, headed by Dr. Böhm, helped me integrate into the German culture while living in Buffalo. As I advanced in the program, internships and study abroad opportunities were made easily accessible. By the end of the program at Canisius, not only did I have confident control of the language, but I had the international business experience necessary to launch my career. After working for some time in an international position in the United States, I longed to go back to Germany and finish my MBA. With the skills acquired in the German program at Canisius, I was able to successfully complete a German masters program with high honors.
Once again working in the United States, I look forward to the next time that I can be in Germany. I thank the German Department and Dr. Böhm for introducing me to the culture and opening up a world that I would have previously never experienced."
