David Shanks Assistant Professor
David Shanks specializes in multimedia production and convergence journalism, exploring how good communications and powerful storytelling are presented on multiple media platforms. Other areas of interest are television production and live sports broadcasting. His research topics focus on how politicians and voters use new media technologies to disseminate and gather political news and information.
Shanks comes to Canisius College by way of St. Cloud State University, Louisiana State University, and Texas State University where he taught convergence media, television production, and multimedia production. He has over 14 years of professional multimedia production experience, working with a variety of companies such as Microsoft, IBM, Alabama National Guard, Austin-Bergstrom International Airport, Harcourt Brace & Company, Holt, and John Wiley & Sons. Additionally, Shanks has worked as a videographer with Alabama Public Television where he covered state government for the nightly news and public affairs show, “For the Record.”

Shanks received his Master of Arts in Mass Communications from Texas State University-San Marcos and a bachelor’s degree from Auburn University at Montgomery.
He lives in Buffalo with his wife, Marge.
