Bassoonist Ellen Barnum performed for 14 years as a member of Vento Chiaro, a Boston-based woodwind quintet, touring across the U.S. and Canada. She maintains an active freelance career in Buffalo, NY, performing with many local ensembles including the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra. She teaches music literature and bassoon at Canisius College, is the associate director of ArtsCanisius and is a lecturer at Buffalo State College where she teaches bassoon, chamber music and ear training. Barnum also maintains an active private bassoon studio.
Barnum received her bachelor of music and graduate performance diploma from the Peabody Conservatory, and an artist diploma from the Longy School in Cambridge, MA. She received several awards as a member of Vento Chiaro, including the Saunderson Award at the Coleman Chamber Music Competition and the Silver Medal at the Fischoff Chamber Music Competition.
