Thomas J. Vogel, PhD, CPA Associate Professor
Dr. Vogel joined the Canisius College faculty in fall 2008 after teaching ten years at Western New England College and three years at Syracuse University. He served as Chair of the Accounting Department at Western New England College and was the recipient of the Teaching Excellence Award for the College in 2005.
Prior to entering the academic world, Dr. Vogel was active in public accounting for five years as Audit Supervisor for Gould & Swanson, PC in Buffalo, NY. His audit experience included commercial and municipal clients and he was actively engaged in tax preparation for corporations, partnerships, and individuals.
Dr. Vogel is an active researcher having seven refereed journal publications in the past ten years and numerous presentations at academic conferences. He is especially interested in the development of case studies for classroom use and served as the Accounting Track Chair for the North American Case Research Association for five years. In addition to case studies, Dr. Vogel’s research interests include financial reporting, corporate governance, and executive compensation.
While at Western New England College, Dr. Vogel was actively involved with professional and community organizations. He was a member of the Academic and Career Development Committee of the Massachusetts Society of CPAs and the Western Massachusetts CPA Committee. He also served as treasurer for the Springfield School Volunteers. Dr. Vogel is developing similar commitments as he makes his transition back to Western New York.
Dr. Vogel is a member of the American Institute of CPAs, the New York State Society of CPAs, the American Accounting Association, and the North American Case Research Association.
