Major programs of study in the Department of Philosophy
Among our students desiring to major in philosophy [1] some have scholarly interests to pursue graduate study in philosophy while [2] others desire to acquire competence in philosophy for a diversity of other reasons including advanced study in other disciplines. Accordingly, the Department of Philosophy offers two programs of philosophy to satisfy these interests, each established on a firm foundation in philosophy while equally maintaining intellectual and academic rigor and promoting the Department’s mission to educate for others.
1. Ignatian Scholars. This curriculum prepares young or returning scholars specifically for advanced study in philosophy to complement the concern for promoting the service of faith and the promotion of justice as men and women for others.
2. Erasmus Scholars. This curriculum prepares students for advanced study in academic fields other than philosophy, for professional school, for a broadened liberal arts foundation for employment, for living well, for service as men and women for others.
In addition to these two major programs of study, the Department of Philosophy also provides opportunities to construct a minor in philosophy.
3. Fellow Travelers. A minor in philosophy consists in courses at middle and upper levels of study that might complement another major or provide personal intellectual satisfaction
