Why Study Pre-Med at Canisius

  • Over the past five years, 86% of Canisius students who applied to medical (allopathic or osteopathic) school through the college’s Health Science Advisory and Recommendation Committee were accepted. Students pursue allopathic and osteopathic medicine, dental, optometry, podiatry, veterinary medicine, pharmacy, physician assistant, physical therapy, chiropractic and other programs.

  • Canisius students are able to apply early to professional schools through special routes including Early Assurance Programs and Combined (Joint) Degree Programs. Early Assurance Programs allow students to apply to professional schools earlier during the first two years of college, freeing them to take advantage of other learning opportunities during the typical application period. Combined (Joint) Degree Programs allow students to accelerate the time to their degrees, typically by completing three years at Canisius and four years in their professional studies, and earning both the Bachelor’s degree and the Professional Doctorate degree. In some cases, seats are held specifically for Canisius students.
  • An extensive network of alumni in the Western New York area who stay involved with the college and directly support students as they prepare for entry into the medical and health professions.
