Each program has its own requirements and process for application and being retained in the program. Some require standardized exams, some do not. Please note that it is important to check with the individual professional program for the most accurate information as specific requirements change from time to time.

University at Buffalo School of Medicine (4+4)

Students apply during sophomore year at Canisius

Students apply either while in high school or during sophomore year

  • 93% high school average

  • Understanding of and commitment to the profession of dentistry
  • To continue in program: Maintain GPA of 3.5 (overall and sciences), 100 hours shadowing, DAT = 20 Academic Average and 18 Perceptual Aptitude

To apply during Sophomore year

  • Completed English and at least half of science prerequisites
  • 3.5 GPA
  • To continue in program: Maintain 3.7 after acceptance (overall and sciences), 100 hours shadowing, DAT = 20 on all sections in one sitting (Academic Average, Perceptual Ability and Reading)
  • No specific number of seats reserved for Canisius Students

Lake Erie College of Osteopathic Medicine (3+4 or 4+4):

  • Students may apply jointly to LECOM and Canisius from high school or freshman or sophomore year
  • A 3+3 or 4+3 Primary Care Pathway is also available to students who know they want to enter a primary care area of medicine

To apply from high school:

  • 3.5 high school GPA
  • 1170 SAT or 26 ACT
  • Understanding of osteopathic medicine

To apply during freshman or sophomore year:

  • 3.4 GPA in sciences and overall

To be maintained in program:

  • 3.0 GPA in sciences and overall each term
  • 3.2 GPA cumulative in the sciences
  • 3.4 GPA cummulativeoverall
  • 25 MCAT (no lower than 7 in any category)
  • Osteopathic shadowing experience

LECOM School of Pharmacy (3+4 or 4+4)

  • Students may apply jointly to LECOM and Canisius from high school or during freshman or sophomore year.

  • 1300 SAT with math score ≥ 670 (or 30 ACT)
  • Understanding of optometry
  • Community involvement and communication and interpersonal skills

To apply during freshman or sophomore year:

  • 3.3 GPA in science/math prerequisites and overall
  • No grade lower than ‘C’

To be maintained in program:

  • 3.3 GPA in science/math prerequisites (no grade below ‘C’) and overall
  • 3.3 GPA in sciences and overall cumulative
  • OAT 330 total and individual scores
  • No limit to the number of Canisius students accepted into the program

University at Buffalo School of Pharmacy (3+4)

  • Students work with the Pre-Med Center starting freshman year to stay on track for this program
  • 3.5 GPA in prerequisites and overall
  • Earn 400 on PCAT (3 on written essay)
  • Recommendation from Canisius
  • Thorough understanding of the pharmacy profession
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Students are guided throughout their time at Canisius to participate in this program.
  • There is no official application process to UB for students to be part of this program.
  • A minimum of 2 seats are reserved for Canisius students

Ontario Veterinary College University of Guelph (4+4)

  • Students work with the Pre-Med Center starting freshman year to stay on track for this program
  • Must have completed all prerequisites during regular semesters to apply
  • Carry full academic load each semester

  • Experience working with a vet (paid or unpaid)
  • Animal Experience
  • Students are guided throughout their time at Canisius to participate in this program.
  • There is no official application process to OVC for students to be part of this program.
  • This program reserves 2 seats for our students
