Solve The Mosquito Mystery
They spread some of the world’s most deadly diseases, but mosquitos don’t get sick. Katie Costanzo, PhD, wants to know why. If scientists discover why mosquitoes survive the diseases they carry, they could better treat and prevent those diseases in people.
As a child at her grandfather’s log cabin, she soaked up science playing in the creek. As an undergraduate student, she was mentored by an entomology professor. These days, she’s an evolutionary ecologist. Costanzo and her students raise mosquitoes from larvae to adulthood. The information they gather, analyze and document could be a boon to disease management. The experience could turn her undergraduates into career scientists.
Costanzo loves to teach and research. She mentors students as she was mentored. She knows small things can have huge implications.
