The bike patrol hit the streets for the first time on June 26, 2000. Their first assignment was patrolling the freshman orientations during the summer.
The Department currently has six Public Safety Officers that have been trained and certified by the NYS Municipal Police Training Council. These Officers include:

- LT Jim Murphy
- PO Andrew Nowak
- PO Mike Sonnenfeld
