Welcome to the On-line Master of Science in Literacy Education home page!

The on-line master's program in literacy is designed to prepare literacy specialists focused on one of two areas: pre-K through sixth grade or fifth grade through 12th grade.

The program meets New York State requirements for certification as a literacy specialist.  Each concentration in the literacy education master's degree has a component that involves working with children in a clinical setting, research projects that lead to improvements in literacy instruction, and testing and tutoring in the area of literacy skills (reading and writing).

Two weeks of residency is required during the summer to complete the two courses with practicum requirements. The practicums are completed in our Literacy Center on-campus in Buffalo, New York.  The remainder of the coursework for the master's program in literacy education can be completed on-line.

The master's degree in literacy education is also offered in the traditional on-campus format. For more information about our on-campus graduate literacy program, visit the program web site.
