Learning Goals & Objectives
Student Learning Goal 1
Basic Insights of Christianity and other Religions - Religious Studies and Theology majors will know the basic insights of Christianity and at least two other world religions.
Students will:
- Objective A: Demonstrate familiarity with major movements, figures, and historical developments of the Christian tradition;
- Objective B: Demonstrate understanding of the historical and theological development of Christianity, including Roman Catholicism and other branches of Christianity;
- Objective C: Demonstrate understanding of the historical development and religious teachings of two other world religions.
Student Learning Goal 2
Critical Thinking - Religious Studies and Theology majors will be critical thinkers about religion.
Students will:
- Objective A: Demonstrate understanding of the values and teachings of different religious themes and traditions;
- Objective B: Compare and contrast theses values and teachings on specific themes;
- Objective C: Use major theories and methods in the academic study of religion and theology.
Student Learning Goal 3
Scholarly Research and Writing - Religious Studies and Theology majors will do scholarly research and writing in Religious Studies.
Students will:
- Objective A: Describe the context of a particular religious or theological question and develop a thesis in response to the question;
- Objective B: Analyze responses to issues raised by the question in response to the student’s argument;
- Objective C: Construct a logical defense of the student’s argument.
