Congratulations to Canisius on
Winning the Golden Griffin Choices Grant!!!

What is the CHOICES Grant?
Through the innate leadership of student-athletes, peer education will be provided to reduce high risk drinking behavior on the Canisius College campus.  Using the TiPS for the University training program, “we will provide our students with the skills they need to intervene in situations where their peers are misusing alcohol.”  This grant is provided in collaboration with NCAA and the American College Health Association-National College Health Assessment. Over the course of three consecutive years, this grant will be on campus to support campus activities and college services in support “where high risk drinking is challenge and not accepted.”

Goal for this year: to have the majority of the students on campus trained through the TiPS program before May 2010

Student-athletes:
Your two Student Athlete Advisory Council (SAAC) members will be trained using TiPS for the University program before the end of the fall semester 2009. (SAAC officers may be found on www.gogriffs.com under "Inside Athletics".) Once they are trained, they will be training their team to then be advocates for the peer-education program.

Organizations/Clubs:
After the SAAC members are trained, and they have trained their teams, they will be in contact with your clubs to administer a workshop using the training they received through TiPS for the University. Training of other organizations will begin in late fall, and go into the spring semester.

If there are any questions, email the Graduate Assistant Chelsea Carhart at carhartc@canisius.edu, or the Director of Golden Griffin Choices Program Traci Murphy at murphy30@canisus.edu.

Congratulations to the first round of students who were trained!
