The Office of Residence Life uses a point system in the Housing Selection Process for all campus housing (as listed in Housing Options).  Each student who applies for campus housing will be assigned points from the following categories:
  • GPA
  • Credit hours completed (Student Status)
  • Semesters in Residence
Students with disciplinary sanctions requiring deduction of points will have points deducted automatically.

Transfer students that have been accepted to Canisius and have a valid Canisius ID number, can apply for housing, however, they do not accumulate points.

The Information Services Technnology Department will rank students according to their points earned for the above mentioned categories.  The points of each individual student in the group will be added together and totaled for the group. The group point totals will be ranked in order from highest total to lowest total. The group with the highest total will have first choice of housing and so on down the list.

*When applying for housing that has the capacity of more than four occupants, the four highest individual point totals of the group will be used for ranking purposes.

Points will be assigned as follows:

GPA
0.0 - 0.99 = 0 points
1.0 - 1.99 = 1 point
2.0 - 2.99 = 2 points
3.0 - 3.49 = 3 points
3.5 - 3.99 = 4 points
4.0 = 5 points

Student Status
Your student status (freshmen, sophomore, junior) will be determined in the same manner that the Registrar’s Office uses. This system is based on the number of credit hours completed. Transfer credit hours are included in this. You will receive one point per credit hour.

Semesters in Residence
One point for each semester you have lived in college housing

Disciplinary Sanctions
For students who have lost points through the judicial process, the points will be automatically deducted from your total score.
