The residence halls will be closing on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 7pm and will re-open Sunday, November 29, 2009 at noon. Only students that receive online approval from Kathleen Farley, Assistant Director of Residence Life, will be permitted to be on-campus in the residence halls during this time.


Dining Services:
On-campus dining facilities will be closed November 24-30. Dinner in the Economu Dining Hall will be that last meal served on Tuesday, November 24th. The Upper Deck will be closed that evening. The Dining Hall will re-open for dinner only on Sunday, November 29th. The Upper Deck will re-open for dinner on Monday, November 30th.

Shuttle Services:
A shuttle service to the Buffalo-Niagara International Airport, Dick Road train station, and downtown bus station will be available to resident students on Tuesday, November 24, 2009 from 9am-9pm and Wednesday, November 25, from 6am-3pm. Students can sign up for the shuttle in the Residence Life office in the lower-level of Dugan Hall.

Residence Life Office Hours:
The Office of Residence Life will be open on Wednesday, November 25, 2009 from 8:30am-3:00pm. The office will be closed during the break and will re-open with regular business hours on Monday, November 30, 2009.

Any student who needs to stay on campus at any point after Tuesday, November 24, 2009 at 7pm must submit a Request to Stay Form online and follow the procedure below:

  • Submit the Request to Stay Form by Friday, November 20, 2009 You will need your Canisius username and password. All fields on the request form must be completed accurately.
  • Students will be informed of the status of their request via an e-mail response. Not all submitted requests are guaranteed approval.
  • Students requesting an extension of stay in the residence halls because they are using the airport shuttle service will only be approved until the time of their scheduled shuttle.
  • Any student found in housing without approval will be fined $100.

Important Safety Information:
Please note that there are limited staff members and people on-campus during the break. Please be vigilant in observing safety measures such as locking doors and not walking alone.  Take responsibility for keeping yourself safe seriously. Call Public Safety at 888-2330, if you observe anything out of the ordinary.

It is highly recommended that security alarms are activated in the off-campus apartments during the break. If your apartment has an alarm and you are unsure of how it works, please contact the Residence Life office prior to your departure at 888-8300.
