Tutoring Center Programs

Supplemental Instruction (SI) is an academic assistance program for accounting courses that utilizes peer-assisted study sessions. SI sessions are regularly-scheduled, informal review sessions in which students compare notes, discuss readings, develop organizational tools, and predict test items. Students learn how to integrate course content and study skills while working together. The sessions are facilitated by SI leaders, students who have previously done well in the course and who attend classes, understand the material and act as a guide through the coursework. The sessions start the second week of classes for the fall and spring semesters.

The Study Center Program (OM-318) is open to all students. Study Center is an opportunity for students to focus on their academic work in a quiet environment.  Tutors are available to answer questions and provide academic support.

Forming Your Foundation for the Future is a series of workshops designed to assist students to becoming better and more efficient learners. The topics and schedules will be available at the start of the semester. The workshops for spring 2013 are offered on Tuesday afternoons from 4 - 5 p.m. in OM-320. These sessions count as Study Center hours.

College Reading and Learning Association (CRLA) accredits the center and its tutors.  This certification brings international accreditation, standards and training requirements for tutors.  Its standards are recognized across the country and overseas, adding to the value of a Canisius education.
