Mandatory International New Student Orientation

Spring 2013

All new international and exchange students arriving for the Spring 2013 semester must attend a mandatory orientation session beginning Tuesday, January 8, 2013.  Students should plan to arrive on either Monday, January 7, 2013 or Tuesday, January 8, 2013 by 12 noon. Orientation will officially begin on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 at 12 noon and runs until Friday, January 11, 2013. Your orientation schedule will be given to you upon arrival. It is imperative that you arrive by this time in order to ensure that you are well rested for language proficiency testing, which is part of Orientation. Orientation includes a mixture of academic sessions and social events, to ensure that you are acquainted with the college, the local community, our academic structure, and other students here at Canisius.

Pre-Arrival Guide

Prior to arrival to campus, we will be emailing you the Pre-Arrival Guide. This guide will provide you with information that you should take some time to read over. In it, we have a contact cell phone number. Please be sure you copy this number down and carry it with you in your travels. Should you encounter a flight delay or cancellation, please be sure to call us and let us know. You will also find a list of suggested items that you either bring with you or plan to purchase upon arrival.

Arrival to Campus

Once you make your travel arrangements to arrive to Canisius, you should email our office with your arrival information. We ask that you email us your flight information no later than December 20, 2012 to ispmail@canisius.edu. As a service for our new international and exchange students, we arrange to have a staff member pick you up from the airport, train station, or bus terminal in Buffalo, if you will need a ride to campus for Orientation. You should schedule your flight to arrive to Buffalo on either Monday, January 7, 2013 or Tuesday, January 8, 2013 by 12 noon. Please note that if you plan to arrive to campus prior to Monday, January 7, 2013 you will be responsible for transportation and your own lodging in a local hotel.

Meals During Orientation

A one time $250 orientation fee will be charged to your student bill, which will cover meals and activities during the orientation program (Tuesday, January 8, 2013 - Friday, January 11, 2013). You will be responsible for your own meals from Saturday, January 12, 2013 onwards. As part of the orientation schedule, you will have the opportunity to go grocery shopping at a local supermarket. Housing

If you will be living on-campus for the Spring semester, you will be permitted to move directly into your housing assignment as long as you do not arrive prior to Monday, January 7th. You will be notified of your housing assignment via email, prior to your arrival to Canisius.
